91-93 windshield in an 88....You sure? 200 1988

I have read several times on the brickboard of people using a later model (91-93, I think) windshield in an older Volvo...

I'm not really calling that in to question -- but I want to make _sure_ so I don't look like a jackass at the glass shop insisting they put it in, and then it doesn't fit or something. So, a few questions...

1. Has anyone done it for an 88? Is there any thing special about an '88 that would make it harder, or not work, or anything...?

2. What is the benefit of going with the newer style windshield?

I called a local glass shop, and they said that it didn't cross reference to the newer windshield...I mentioned that I thought the newer ones came with the rubber gasket already installed, and her computer wasn't showing that either...Basically she said "maybe it is so, but my computer isn't telling me that, so I can't install it..."

So I'm wondering if it's worth my trouble to try to find a glass shop that will do it....This place has done work in the past for me, and I was very happy with the results (it was for a corolla, and much cheaper...)...they quoted $224 installed w/tax for the '88 windshield. I believe it to be high quality glass. (when I had the corolla windshield replaced they informed me that it was "junk" glass and what they install is much better...so whatever that's worth)

Thanks again, Brickboard...

-Steve
