Coolant Temperature Sensor - O-ring? 200 1981

1981 non-Turbo. My 81 engine has a engine coolant temperature sensor below the #1 intake port. (It's the 81 version with the air control valve as compared to the 81's that have an air auxilary valve or air slide. My son's 1981 is the air-auxilary-valve version, and it does not have this sensor.) The sensor takes a two-wire plug. I bought a new one, Bosch # 0-280-130-028, which came without a gasket of any kind. Is this part designed to be installed without a gasket or copper o ring? It looks like it might be designed to be used with no gasket because above the threads the shaft is tapered. Am I correct in figuring that it takes no o-ring or gasket? I'll be replacing this part when I go in to do the wiring harness in a few days, and would like to be prepared ahead of time.

Also, should anything be put on the threads of this part and of the thermal time switch?
