AC Magnetic Clutch 700

91, 740
B 230 F non-turbo
R 12 AC system

What causes the magnetic clutch on the AC Compressor to sit still and not turn. This may have started happening last summer, because it was working intermittently - sometimes ok and other times it wouldn't even come on. We recently had the system recharged and it worked fine. Now it has stopped again after working ok for three weeks.

Btw, we recently had the AC system recharged but there is a question whether the refrigerant was R-12 or a mix/blend. A local member of MACS (Mobile Air Conditioning Society), told me to get the system tested. I just haven't gotten around to doing that yet but I am planning on doing that. He said that if the test shows it is not pure then it is a case of fraud, as I asked for R-12.

But part of my question here is whether a mix/blend could cause the magnetic clutch to stop? Logically I cannot think of any reason why but I am no AC expert. Need some opinions please.
