A little twist on the O/D switch problem 200

OK, I have seen much on this board about the O/D relay needing resoldering. I will check that ASAP, but here is a twist to which I did not find reference:

--> Drive my '90 240DL wagon until thoroughly warmed up with no apparent trouble (ie. - shifts normally, runs with no unusual noises, etc.)
--> Turn off key
--> Restart to find that O/D lockout is on (light is on, won't shift up) and will not turn off for a while but will do so all by itself after idling for a while.

It has been a couple of years since I changed fluid and filter in the tranny, but not a lot of miles (spends most of its time sitting but is usually driven at least once a week). When I check the level, the fluid smells almost new and has good color, but it is strangly high. It was at a normal level a few moons ago but quite high now. In fact, today, I pulled the dipstick after a good warmup drive to find it dry; I didn't believe my eyes so stuck it in again and it came up as overfilled. It showed overfilled when cold a couple of days ago.

I know it is not a poltergeist. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

-- Matt
