VOV questions 700 1990

I decided to try the VOV in my 740 sedan when I had the a/c system open to change out the original compressor which had a seal leak. I found a garage that would remove the remaining gas for a small fee. The system was converted to R134 a few years back when the condenser took a rock hit which caused a instant leak. For the few days I have had the VOV in, I have found that the a/c compressor appears to run almost 100% of the time. My main question: is this behaivor the NEW "normal" for my system with a VOV in it? It seems that this could be great for the clutch life as there is virtually no cycling of the clutch, but I am concerened about the life span of the compressor itself! I am interested to hear experences from others that have the VOV in. Would like to know does your compressor cycle almost all the time too, and how long you have had it in your system and also how many months per year do you use the a/c heavily, and of course have you had any compressor failures/problems? I tend to leave the ac in recirculate mode as my trips are 30 minutes or so and this keeps the humidity down inside the cabin.

Additional info: I have 36 oz. (three cans) of 134a in a 38.4 oz. in the system after vacuuming for 80 to 85 minutes. It is a 6% undercharge. A new dryer was installed and new o-rings where ever I opened up the system. I remember the low side pressure after the last can was added and it was 44psi (it was read on a 4" 60psi guage so I believe it to be accurate). Ambient temp was 78 degrees and it was about 70-80% humidity. A/c system performance seems to me to be very good, but only have my original system to reference it to. I leave a thermometer in the cabin air duct just above the a/c controls all year round. I think of it as a 4 dollar air temp guage the factory left out. It gets to 38-40 degrees rather quickly when set to recirculate and the fan speed does not seem to matter. The fan can be set 1-4 and the temp is maintained.
