problem solved ----- No start ------- wireing broken on pump 700 1991

Thanks for all your suggestions I followed each and every one. the problem was a broken wire in the plastic sheath of the positive wire 1" above the actual pump in the tank. I pulled on the wires but not hard enough, when I would wiggle the pump it would connect for a short time, then it would sputter and die. So the first action is to check if you have power to the top of the pump use a trouble test light, ground the light first with the clip, then pierce the pink wire and turn the ignition switch to on and see if the light goes on for a second before the relay kicks it off. if it goes on you more than likely have a break in the wires above actual pump in the tank. Also, have someone turn on the ignition while you are above the tank, with the cover off and see if you can hear a "hum", that's the pump.
Remember the pump hot wire is the pink, the ground wire is brown. \
also, those of us with older vol's, we need to clean the grounds on the block, the frame, the neg. cable (both ends), the pos. cable (both ends, the leads on the back of the alternator. Check the fuse block (in the console) for dark spots (heat) and any discoloration on the terminals (Corosion).

This is a great site and alot of very helpfull people take the time to get involved.

Thanks again Tim
