Broken Front Spring 200

Well after 26 + years of Volvo use and repair, I have this question. Our 245 1986, 245,000 miles has been sitting for 4 months until I could repair the trans mount and shifter. I when to move it last week and it was very difficult to move e.g. rev the engine release clutch just sort of stopped. I heard a noise from right front strut and when to look at it. The right front spring was broken two coils above the lower mount and was sitting on top of and pushing down on the Dunlop A 2 Sport. The reason it did not move. The spring looked OK not rusty, just a clean break.

Since we have 5 other Volvos mostly 745 turbos, it is not a problem. Two of the other Volvos have SAM springs from Sweden. But others are stock. Has anyone seen this spring breaking to be a problem item. It sort of shocked me as I do drive that 245 around corners in an energetic way. It has IPD bars, poly bushings, 50 series tires, Boge Pro-Gas shocks, but stock springs.

Thank You,
