engine washing 700 1989

It's usually moisture being drawn into the distributor cap, probably due to the temperature change when the cooler water hits the cap. I degrease and wash my engine about twice a year and never wash it stone cold, the heat helps dry things out and prevents corrosion between the aluminum and steel parts. Cover the dist. cap and you'll most likely be fine. Water can build up around the spark plugs but if your boots are tight they shouldn't ground out.
