inop aux Fan with AC on 200

Help guys. The aux fan in front of the car does not come on when I turn on the AC. I followed Chris Herbst's advice and dsiconnected the plug on the cooling rail by the alternator - then jumped the plug- when I did that the fan came on after the 5-10 sec delay. But I don't want to leave this jumped permanently. So what is the problem? Need to replace the switch down adjacent to the alternator? Or do I have an inop temperature sensor somewhere. (I replaced the original radiator with a Nissens from FCP a while back - there' a screw in plug at the top that I don't have anything plugged into it since the original radiator didn't have this plug?). Appreciate any advice.
