HELP! Instrument Cluster Problems - ' 200 1988

Hey there was hoping someone could help me shed light on a problem I'm having with the instrument cluster on my 1988 245DL Wagon. After having the rear brakes replaced... i picked up the car from the shop and the clock, odometer & thermostat all stopped working. The speedo and fuel gauge are okay, though the fuel gauge acts a little funny when the tank is less than half full - the gauge goes almost all the way down when idling, and then picks back up once I put my foot on the accelerator. I had my mechanic remove the cluster from the dash - he checked the wiring to see if there was a short or something and told me that he doesn't think that it's an electrical problem. I was planning on selling my car within the next few weeks, and was hoping to get the cluster, especially the odometer and thermo operational before selling. though maybe someone out there might know something or be able to give me an idea of what I can do or should look for.
Thanks in advance.
