Brake light failure (cruise too) 700

Hi,
My wife noticed I have no brake lights on the way home from a Mariners game 2 nights ago. Oddly, the cruise control failed for the first time 2 weeks ago and hasn't worked since either.

There is no bulb failure light on now (though there has been intermittenly with brake application in the recent past).

I changed the 3 brake lights, checked the fuses and just tried a new switch (stop lamp). There is 12 volts to the switch, but no lights. I can hear a relay flipping in the center console somewhere when the switch is thrown ( I assume this has something to do with the shiftlock).

Does anyone have an idea what this might be or what I should check next?
There is a separate switch for the cruise; if this fails does can it take out the brake light?

Thanks in advance,

Josh
