Protecting the paint/body 200 1990

The paint on my new (used) 240dl is in great condition except for a little peeling on the hood. First, is there any way to prevent more peeling? Second, I have to park my car outside and I'm in a very hot and humid climate: Should I use a car cover (cloth-looking; I'm not sure what they're made out of) to protect it?
