overdrive gone 200

When I purchsed my daughters 1992 240, with 150k miles, auto trans, the overdrive woked fine and the little button on the gearshift worked and the instrument panel light came on when OD was cancelled by pushing the button. So, all was well.

I drove it today and found that it never goes into OD now, the button doesn't do anything and the light is off all the times.

What is the series of steps that are used to diagnose the problem? Could this be the OD relay? I assume that it is accessed from behind the glovebox.
