Starter dead? Help!! 89 240 wgn... 200 1989

Well, we drove 89 240 wagon the local chinese buffet and when we got ready to leave i turned the key to start the brick and the starter did like a half turn and then... nothing.
We tapped the starter (a lot!) to see if it had simply jammed, but still, nothing.
We tried shorting across the contacts on the starter to jump it...still nothing. The starter won;t wind...
We boosted the car...plenty of power...moved the car, flew up and down thgrough the gears.... I even removed the moulding and checked the Park/Neutral safety indicator on the shifter...it seems all intact, no frayed burnt wires, and the indicator lines up nicely.
Even after a tow home and everything...still nothing.
I have had no problems EVER with this starter...before i jack it up and remove the starter...any ideas?
The brick board has come through before! Here's hopin'...
