valve adjustment ?'s 700

B230ft valve adjustment, this is probably a stupid question, but here goes. Under the lifters are those little silence seals, hushers, whatever you call them. They have a little spring action when you push on them, when you measure the clearance, do you measure with the lifter not presses, as to squash the husher, or do you press on the lifter to squish the husher to take up any slack between the lifter and the top of the valve. Im thinkin no, which means I need to order new adjustment shims from work. Im goin nuts here, a simple exaust stud extraction,(ya right) has taken 2 weeks, (work and school permitted) and turned into a head, turbo, cam swap project i didnt want to do at the moment. But neither here nor there, whats done is done, and I just want to finish it. any help would be appreciated. And yes, I consulted the FAQ's.....Thanks in advance!
