New Sachs shocks ... noise! Oversized mounting holes? 200

Earlier this year I put in Sachs Advantage shocks (= German made Boge Turbo Gas). New rear springs and 21 mm swaybar were fitted in the same operation. Ever since I have got a rattling, albeit faint noise in the rear suspension when driving on bumpy roads. I have re-tightened all the nuts and checked the wheel bearings. Everything seems fine. I'm left with two theories:
1) I have got a shock with a bad valve. Not very likely, but could be.
2) The mounting holes in the Sachs shocks are slightly larger than those in the original shocks, resulting in some movement around the bolts.

Before I tear everything apart again, I would be grateful for any comments.

Erling.
