Bypass park-lock microswitch? 900 1993

I have the classic park-lock microswitch trouble. I took everything apart and found the switch worked fine; tightened up the snap-fasteners a bit, put it all back together, and now it DOESN'T work (again). You can imagine the frustration.

It is really the switch? Or an alignment/mounting issue?

I don't know whether to possibly waste the time replacing the switch, only to find that the other one really wasn't bad...or to just bypass the switch (take the switch out of the circuit and connect the two wires together).

If I DO bypass the switch, I am assuming the car will still start only in Park, but the brake pedal will not need to be pressed to shift OUT of park (leaving me open to "Audi-style" unintended acceleration incidents.

Thanks for any advice!
