Assistance re exhaust tailpipe replacement Los Angeles

I recently had a full brake job done by the new owner of Swedish Motors in Los Angeles.

He pointed out that the tailpipe of my 86 240 DL sedan was/is misshapen and I am loosing gas mileage. This was the result of having the muffler and piping changed while on the road in the South East US a few years ago and the job being done by a local repair shop, the only available then.

I am told that all I need is to have the exhaust pipe cut and a new one, of the proper shape and length, welded/attached on to the existing muffler.

I really don’t know which type of auto service shop would give me the lowest prices and functional work on this matter, and whether I would need to bring them a VOLVO specific tailpipe or not.

LA has zillions of places that could probably do it, but my knowledge of just what pipe and work is needed would undoubtedly save me money, time and trouble.

Thus my question to the Brickboard members:

Which type of shop could do the cutting and attaching of a new tailpipe – from a point after the exiting of the muffler relatively easily and inexpensively.

Do I need a Volvo “stock” / “part” exhaust pipe, or can a generic work ?

Is the above idea of attaching a new pipe workable enough, rather than the entire muffler assembly ?

Anyone know shops in the Los Angeles / Hollywood area that would be good for this ?

Thanks

Jerry
