A tired subject I'm sure - gas mileage on a '93 240 wagon 200

The local independent shop thinks I'm crazy, but the '93 240 wagon I just bought got 27.8mpg going from Raleigh, NC (on I-40, 70-75mph) to Wilimngton, NC and back (on US 421, 60-65mph). It gets 24mph at a steady 80mph and on the way back from Texas last week got 27mph at a steady 70mph over a 200 mile range. The shop thinks I'm nuts and tells me that 24-25 is much more accurate. I've checked mileage over 6 tanks now and I am right.

The car was sold new in California in 1993. Is it possible that it has a different gearset in it? Is it NORMAL for one to get this mileage? I'm not complaining, mind you!

Denis
