m46 overdrive disengages SLOOWWWLY... cause? 700

1985 745t m46

The OD engages from fourth gear without a hitch. However, when I downshift or go to disengage the OD it sometimes takes anywhere from 5-20 seconds to actually disengage. In the interim I am driving with the OD on, despite the fact that the light has gone out and it would appear I am in fourth gear. When it finally does disengage the tach jumps to where it should be with fourth gear.

I couldn't identify any kind of pattern accept maybe the heat (it was a hot day and I was driving awhile). I searched the FAQ for information, but the only problems discussed are the piston seepage and solenoid issues. My OD was overhauled and has had the newer pistons with the wider grooves and o-rings installed, so seepage shouldn't be an issue. I guess it could be the solenoid, but wouldn't I have trouble engaging the OD as well as disengaging it?

Any thoughts or information are appreciated.

Thanks,
rt
