engine possibilities 700

hello all,

My brother has a 1991 740 n/a that the engine blew on a little while ago. He is going to be doing a rebuild on the enginer here soon and I am entertaining the idea of buying the car from him upon completion of the rebuild. My question is this. What kind of modifications can be made to the engine to give it a little more pep especially on the low end. I have heard talk of different things, i.e. cams, valves, that sort of thing, but nothing detailed and some of the things involved pulling the engine apart. I am thinking that while it is all apart it may be advantageous to perform a few of these upgrades.

I am looking for recommendations on what to get and, if possible, what kind of advantage that particular part or upgrade would yield. Also recommendation on what companies/brands and/or upgrades to avoid. Thank you in advance...

Neil
