Question: thermostat install - gasket sealant required?? or not???

I am putting in the thermostat on my B21A 78 242.

The thermostat comes with a rubber gasket that stretches around the thermostat flange and sits inside the recessed lip on the thermostat housing.

I am not sure if additional RTV sealant (silicone product) is needed in addition to the rubber gasket, or just install with the rubber gasket.

There is no fibre gasket like we used to install.
There was some black siliocne sealant sticking the housing to mating face on the block, but it made remaoval of the housing difficult.

What is the correct method???

Thanks in advance...
