Getting interference on the radio 700

I meant like is there a supressor in line with the alternator regulator. It is possible the arial is loose, I do notice a signal drop in some areas, but I always thought that was because the previous owner trashed the electric arial. I have only about 8 inches of arial showing, and it is pretty well trashed. The interference is on AM and FM, it's very slight on both, and turning up the volume masks it. Do you reckon putting in a good arial will cure it?
