740 radio replacement 700 1991

I'm new to this forum and to Volvo ownership, mostly Porsche and Audi. I need some help with installing an in-dash CD player into the Volvo. I purchased the player and the installation kit for this car, but when I got the old radio out, there were a few extra wires(four to be exact). The wiring harness only addresses the wires for the radio not the extra ones(removed the amp and wired those up). I clipped these extra wires and have discovered that 3 of them go to the headlights and one to a buzzer of some sort. I have searched through this forum and have not found a way to fix these wires and their components without the old radio. My headlights will not come on until the 3 wires touch, but cutting off the light switch, the lights stay on until the wires are pulled apart. Why would Volvo wire the lights through the radio and how can I fix this.
