Sunroof cables? 700 1986

Ok so now I have the sunroof apart and have replaced the selector gate,by following the FAQ no problem there.Now when I have everthing reassemled I am trying to set the hieght as required however the selector gate on the right side is 1/8" different in lenght .Is it possible to make each side even.I have removed all screws from the motor and tapped the sunroof into place .This doesn t even out the cables and the selector gate.Do I need to replace the cables ? I am headed out for a road trip tomorrow hoping to get this in working order before I leave
