wierd antenna issues 700

1985 745t

Over the past few months I've been having issues with my antenna. Specifically the antenna will NOT retract all the way into the sleeve, regardless of how thoroughly I clean it, lube it with PBblaster, or tighten it up. Figuring it had something to do with a slight knock the antenna took awhile ago I figured I'd replace the mast. Went to do this tonight with a new mast (it was a total clusterf#%$) and finally got it refed properly. However, it STILL won't retract properly.

It goes up perfectly, climbing the second I hit the antenna switch and fully extending. When it retracts it stops about the length of the final sleeve element (like 6"). If I push it along down as its retracting it will go all the way in, but it sometimes won't go all the way up after that. However, it WILL go up all the way after it starts again.

I thought maybe the motor had lost a tooth or something, but it doesn't jer or stop whil it goes up and down and starts and stops immediately. I would think if a tooth was busted it would affect how it runs...

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
rt
