Is my tranny dead 200 1979

Hi everyone
I'm in a panic right now, my 1979 242 was sitting for about 6 months and I just got around to working on it and I tried to drive it and the tranny is slipping. When I put it in reverse I can't hear or feel it I even let it run for awhile to try to warm it up and nothing it still did the same thing. Can anyone tell me how to get it back. I know it sat for a long time but could this make the tranny go that bad?!?!!!?

jeff
