ignition timing

Still working on the ignition timing for my 1988 740T. I noticed the car was leaking oil pretty badly. Assumed it was the oil change drain, so I went under the car to check. Guess what? Oil is leaking out of the back of the head where the distributor goes in. I am going to pull it out to see what the story is. Maybe that is the problem. I can time it right at idle but it doesn't seem to be maintaining the right timing on acceleration (really bad pinging).
