transmission question

I was looking around under my 1988 740 turbo wagon and noticed what looks like a barb for attaching some sort of hose coming out of the passenger side of the bottom of the engine with nothing attached to it. It looks like sort of pink plastic. Does anyone know what it is and is ok that there is nothing attached to it?

I have circled the part in black on the attached picture. Please follow the link.
