Transmission wants to start in second gear 700 1990

I have a 1990 760 turbo with 200,000 miles. Just installed new radiator, thermastat and expansion cap. Which improved cooling.
Now the car wants to start out in second gear instead of first. It does not do it all the time but leads to a slow accerlation when it does. The transmission oil has fifty thousand miles on it and is more brown in color than red. I plan to flush the fluid but dought this is the cause. I have checked all visible vacum lines and electrical connections.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
