This was the second time I took the car to this shop. I thought they did pretty good by me the first time, so I was very pleasantly surprised when he told me that I could fix it myself ( I had mentioned that I did the timing belt, tensioner and water pump several months earlier). I guess they have enough legitimate business from repeat customers without trying to snag one-timers.
