oil leaking from back of engine.

I am experiencing a fairly heavy leak that appears to be coming from the rear of the engine on my 1988 740 turbo. The leak is in the back and for that reason, it is difficult to locate. I originally thought it was coming from the distributor but I am pretty certain now that that is not the case. I replaced the head gasket and valve cover gasket last week and I hope that it is not the head gasket. When I put the valve cover gasket in I did not use any sealants and was not sure what the correct torque value was for the nuts that hold the valve cover in place. Should I have used some sort of a sealant? Does anyone know the valve cover nut torque spec?

Thanks again.
