What year AW70? 200

I've got a dilemma. I have an '83 244 with the AW70 in it. According to the Bentley manual and the owners manual 83's are supposed to use Type F transmission fluid. Is there any way to know for sure that the transmission I have is an '83 and not a newer replacement? I know where the serial number is on it but how do I know it isn't a newer one that requires Dexron (84 and up per Bentley and my '84 owners manual)? How rapid a death might the wrong ATF bring? Somebody else out there has to have been through this. I have been all through the archives and haven't been able to find the answer-though I did learn a lot of other stuff. Thanks in advance for all your help!!

Rick '82 245GLT(for sale) ,'84 245,'84 244,'83 244,
and soon another '83 244
