i have been having a no start problem for a while which i believe i isolated down to the coil. when i try and start the car with what i believe is the faulty coil, the engine gets no spark and doesn't start. then, i disconnect the old coil and temporarily connect up a coil i got in the junkyard off of a 740. the car starts right up. then i disconnect the new coil and reconnect the old coil, and the car again starts right up. however, if i just try and start the car with the old coil, it will not start until after about 25 attempts.

when i went to install the new coil permanantly, i discovered it was actually too big for the mounting bracket. it doesn't make any sense to me. any ideas as to how this could happen? it seems as if the car remembers that it had just started so starts right up, but if you just try and start it with the old coil, it won't start.

my reasoning would lead me to believe if you have a faulty coil, the car shouldn't start with that coil in place?

BTW- ive repeated this test about 3 times to make sure it wasn't just a fluke.
