Problem Removing a/c Compressor Until 134 Conversion? 700 1990

My friend's 90 740 a/c has been out for "at least 2years". I priced parts for the conversion but it's unlikely she'll be going that route anytime soon. Right now my mission is to improve mileage from its current neglected state. I'm already through with most of the usual maintenance but the compressor could go for another HP or two. Any suggestions for mothballing? I was going to evacuate the system, remove compressor, lube, seal the ports and seal/secure the lines. My previous experience has been one-way, with the compressor never seeing a/c use again. In this case I'd like to preserve that capability should she become, uh, inspired.

Thanks,
Dave
