The 2nd gear in my 83 245 is getting hard to engage. It is not a clutch issue (reverse , 1st etc not a problem). When the tranny is cold, it slips right into 2nd, but once I've driven 10 mins or so it is almost impossible.

I have tried double clutching and this does not help (does this mean it's not the synchro?) Mostly it seems to need force to be pulled in.

I have never opened the box, are the forks accessible if I drop the tranny low but leave it attached to the bell housing?

This is definatly my beater car, so the less done the better, maybe there's some magic oil or something. All suggestions welcome.
