No clutch 900

The clutch on my 1991 940TD was replaced some 3 weeks ago and all was well until yesterday evening. The clutch pedal then went straight to the floor with the obvious problem of not being able to put the car in gear. Both the recovery man and the garage mechanic saw that the seal on the slave cylinder was pushed out . The recovery man suggested that possibly the release bearing was broken hence allowing much more travel of the slave cylinder. The garage have not yet looked at it but are muttering about possibly having to take the gearbox out. My opinion is that its not a coincidence that this happens after a recent clutch replacement and efforts should be concentrated in this area not the gearbox. Opinions please. Finally does this vehicle have the same gearbox as the petrol version?
Thanks. Early replies, if any, would be appreciated as I am going to the garage tomorrow.

Thanks
