Mobil 1 vs. Amsoil 900

As a 960 owner I am convinced that synthetic oil is a good idea for our cars. The question is which one?

I thought Mobil 1 was a good true synthetic oil, but after talking to an Amsoil distributor, he swore that all but "Super Syn" branded Mobil 1 is actually a blend of Group 3 petroleum oils, which is far inferior to Amsoil. He said the worst of the bunch is Mobil 1 "Tri-Syn oil).

He claimed that even SuperSyn Mobil 1, while being a true synthetic, lacks additives to exceed manufacturers' drain intervals.

He said that Amsoil (esp their 0-30) is a 25,000mi oil (with filter changes at 7500mi), and teh 0-30 is a 35,000 mi oil.

He went on to say that over 80% of oil filters clog and bypass or tear internally (resulting in unfiltered oil circulating within the engine).

What is the "real" truth, and do you guys use Amsoil and like it?

Bob
