Overdrive button. What is it? Should I ever push it? 200 1988

Yes. If used correctly, you will find that your volvo has more"get up and go" than it first appears.

I disengage my od when entering the freeway. Ill sometimes wind it out to 65 or 70(or more) before reengaging . pick up is greatly enhanced. I also disengage on long up grades. I learned to do this after a long slow trip over the sierra nevada mtns to reno one weekend.
Cancel the od and she will climb, very well indeed.

Understand that the volvo engine is a strong one, and will take the high revs without a problem. Experiment with it, you will see. Its the reason that some folks like their manual trannys, ie you can wind them out.
