Overdrive button. What is it? Should I ever push it? 200 1988

I use the OD button (or as somebody else says, the "no overdrive" button) on my '88 with an automatic transmission primarily when I am driving in hilly or mountainous roads. If you are going up and down a lot, an automatic transmission with shift in and out of the 4th overdrive gear, usually at the wrong time and when you don't want it to. Turning the "no overdrive" button on just gives me better handling in those situations.
