Hi all- Got my GT home this weekend, and set about getting to know my new family member. Got several questions:
1) the Frequency Valve buzzes when the car is shut off; it doesn't do it right away... last night I noticed it, so I started it up to see if everything was okay (which it was) then shut it off, and no more buzz. An hour later, still no buzz. But this morning it was doing it again. Is this normal?
2) cold start - man, this thing did NOT want to start cold (50-60F). Once started, it would idle at about 500, and if I blipped the throttle, it would die. VERY hard to restart. I'm guessing cold start injector? Once warmed up, it idles at about 1,100, which is too high... takes me to:
3) what should timing be set at? I advanced it to about 15 BTDC baseline, and checked it with my digital advance light, and I'm only getting 20 total (this with the vacuum advance disconnected). I was expecting 15 degrees or so centrifugal advance. What's base/total advance supposed to be?
4) how do you lower the idle? The big hand nut under the intake in the front is all the way in, and what looks like the idle adjustment screw (flat head with 8mm locking nut) doesn't lower it enough; the throttle body is evidently stopping on something other than the idle screw.
5) how do you program the radio? It's a Clarion AM/FM/Casette "Highway Fidelity Series" no visible model number. Is the FM reception poor on these, or is there something I can inspect/repair/improve to get better reception?
6) any recommended tuneup/inspection procedures? The car has 197K on it and seems to run fine. Kinda slow, but I'll get used to that... or swap the cam:-)
Lastly, if I should be posting these as separate threads, please let me know, first time I've had to post this many questions at once!
Many thanks for any help.
