When I installed Gas-A-Just struts on the fromt of my '84 244GL, I had a severe clunk on both sides. The strut retaining caps were tight to within three threads showing above the strut tube. The top nut was also tight.
Turned out the advice I received here on the board was on target....
The KYB's have a different tapered journal cut into the strut piston. what happens is it prevents the top of the strut from being pulled far enoough up to the strut bearing. The gap leaves the strut banging against the bottom of the bearing.
The solution is to remove the top nut (the one above the strut tower) and insert one or two thick washers under that nut.
This pulls the strut up tight against the bottom of the strut bearing.
the only lingering symptom of the KYB installation is that the front of the caris notocably raised higher than the rear. I figure that is the result of the journal cut into the strut cartridge piston.
If you are getting a clunk on the rear shocks somewhere, I don't know about that. Most others are getting that symptom when installing Boge.
