Coolant bypass hose / Water pump

" I am worried that the hose didn't meet the o-ring very well."

By "hose" you mean Pipe, right? The PIPE doesn't "meet" the o-ring. The o-ring goes on the pipe, before the pipe goes in the hole in the pump.

Maybe you can get it out and still use it. And maybe it will hold without the nut -- since it is a (rigid) pipe, and is fixed in place by that hard-to-get-at bolt near the back.
