Cone bushings 900 1993

I am considering replacing the cone bushings on the front end of my 1993 940 (143K Mi)myself. I read the FAQ on this - is there any reason (other than access)that the car cannot be on its front wheels for this procedure, like on the drive-on type ramps? I'm wondering if the suspension being loaded might make re-installation hard, but I'd really rather use ramps if I can.
Also, how involved is the control arm bushing job? I'm not sure I need these but may discover this in the course of doing the cone bushings job.
