I just rang the RTA line to talk about the requirements of re-registering my old Volvo. I asked if it needed to have tailpipe test, to make sure it still lived up to the standard that Volvo built it to.

I was told no, as long as it has a stock motor in it, the only checks would be to make sure the polution gear was still attached.

I also learned that it's OK to bolt in a plastic battery tray, as the tray does not count as a structural part and so does not need to be welded back.

Hooray.
