air mass meter question 200

Can a AMM be bad if (1) the wires inside are still intact and (2) the electrical connector is in good shape (no corrosion)? The car idles great with the connection unplugged (and like crap with it plugged in) so I assumed that my AMM is bad, but upon taking it out and looking at it, I don't know??
