Symptoms of failing Hall Effect sensor, Ignition computer 200 1985

Mike, my Hall Effect sensor went bad on my '83 240DL last year -- the car will not start (no spark). I think it was somewhat of an intermittant problem -- but it did stop me cold. Test for it by pulling the plug from the distributor and jumpering two of the points (which two depends on the distributor type). I replaced the sensor enstead of buying a reconditioned distributor -- cheaper, but risky (may break things taking the distributor apart).

Guess you probably will have to take the distributor out to determine what size you have.

Good luck.
