should front inner wheel bearing race on 89 240 be press fit or not? 200

brickers,

i just finished replacing the front left inner wheel bearing on my 1989 240 DL.

i was expecting to have to press the inner race in but instead i found that it dropped in (snugly) by hand without pressing it.

this disturbred me a little but after trying 3 different bearings (both timken and skl), i gave up trying to find one that pressed in.

one auto parts guy thought that the inner race was not supposed to be a pressed fit. that gave me a little comfort. very little.

something to consider is that the inside seal washer is a pressed fit and it snugs up the bearing race. could that be why the race was not a pressed fit?

oh well, the car is working fine but i would like some conformation from someone who knows what they are talking about on this matter.

please advise. thank you.
