manual 700

i was just wondering - i had a '86 740 in Europe with a 5 speed and now i'm driving a '87 740 turbo wagon with a 4 speed with overdrive here in the states. All manual i found so far in the US are a 4 speed with o/d. What's the reason - in Europe there were nearly only 5speeds - or did i get something wrong. Has it soemthing to do with ther turbo version or the (much too low) speed limits in the states to have a better gas mileage?!?! I would rather like to drive a 5 speed than the one with o/d.
Has anybody an idea why?!?
thx for any answers
stefan
