Guages (and stuff) 200

In other news, I finished my first dashboard project on the 240. I got the tach installed, after realizing that the one I had junked up had a broken (or soon to be broken) needle shaft. At least, while junking up another one, I realized I hadn't gotten the wiring harness for the 52mm clock. So, now it's all in, including the 52mm clock. I also put in older fule and coolant temp guages, so that the faces would match the tach. Couldn't replace the speedo face, though: the holes for the odo and trip meters don't match. At least I'm symmetrical, tho'. Still have room for another guage, even without putting in the three-guage pod I copped off of an '83 turbo. Any suggestions? I've got the oil pressure guage and voltmeter from the pod, but I don't know if that's what I want to do. What I really might want is one of those nifty road-level exterior ambient temp guages. I thought they were standard equipment on 7 and 9 series cars, but I checked about a dozen of them and came up empty. BTW, if I do find one, does anyone know where the sensor is?

So, I'd love to hear what everyone's desert island guage is: the one you couldn't live without (other than the standard speedo, tach, fuel, coolant temp, clock). A coworker suggested I install any old guage, but replace the face with one that says "FUN METER" (maybe a manifold vacuum guage for that).

Anyway, she's going back into the shop next week. The front end still feels kinda loose, and sounds kinda clunky. Still, I have less than $1000 invested, including the purchase price, on a car with a book value of over $3300, so I can't even begin to complain.

P.S.: in case anyone in southern New England is wondering where I'm junking up all of this stuff, I go to a place called Henry's in Blackstone, MA. The back corner of the yard is a veritable Volvo playground, with dozens of 240s, possibly as many 7 series, even a 780 coupe and an 1800s. Just don't go looking for guages: I think I have all of them by now.
